HSC Alumni!

Working with Amberlin is always a joy because of her enthusiasm and devotion to all the living things at HSC.  She is happy to share her knowledge and interests in the different breeds and makes sure you have the right bird for you.

Our favorite HSC chooks have to be Bunny, a Wheaten Ameraucana that is my youngest daughter's best friend, and a little White Crested Blue Bantam Polish (name still unidentified) who has become a house-chicken… and sleeps next to my pillow.  !!

We are looking forward to future HSC hatches - Amberlin always finds the coolest birds!

Hi Amber,
just wanted you to know how much we are enjoying Dotty and Penny...
both are doing very well and laying. Penny, true to her old name, panicked the other week because of a visiting cat, and flew into a neighbor's yard--we were worried--but just as we were on our way over to bring her home, she brought herself home...since then she seems to be more cautious about leaving the rest of the flock (we also have a bantam Hamburg rooster and Cochin hen)...

I am looking forward to buying more birds from you down the road...the way you raise your birds really makes a difference. (Even though Penny is such a nervous, flighty girl, she is still calm when being held--and Dotty, as I've told you before, I think, is amazingly assertive, while still being relaxed.)

When my husband and I were looking for chicks to buy, we decided we didn't want to mail order from a large company. We only wanted four birds, we wanted to be sure they were all female, and we didn't want to chance having any arrive dead. I was thrilled to find Home Schooled Chickens, because it's local and because Amberlin is so friendly and knowledgeable. She regularly hatches small groups of breeds that are specifically suited for backyard life, and the birds are given much love and attention while they're small. Amberlin was kind enough to agree to keep our four chicks until they were old enough to go out into the coop. They are very healthy, happy birds. We would most definitely buy from Home Schooled Chickens again.

I discovered Home Schooled Chickens through the SV chicken group. When I first contacted you I was very impressed with your responsiveness and helpfulness. After driving to your home to purchase the chickens I was further impressed by the way they were integrated into your life, just what we were looking for. As advertised the chicks we got were a mixed variety of  bantams and we've really enjoyed raising them. We've since added other hens to our  backyard flock but the ones we got from you are our favorites. We've raised them as you did by holding them and handling them daily so they are very tame. Overall I would rate my experience with Home Schooled Chickens an easy 10!

Home Schooled Chickens (Mountain View, CA) – Amberlin Wu gets high quality eggs, focusing on harder to find breeds, and hatches them in her home with lots of care. She invited us over to her home to meet her chickens, see her set up and talk about chicken breeds. What a wealth of information, and super nice. She is also an active member of the Sillicon Valley chicken group on Yahoo! Visit her site to see what she is planning on hatching!  - Hawthorne Urban Farm
